Membership Benefits

The ELA Honor Society offers middle school students a unique opportunity to form part of an honor society recognizing their talents in the English Language Arts. However, benefits go far beyond this and include many different stakeholder groups.

Benefits for Students

Membership of the ELA Honor Society is an honor bestowed on students for their academic achievements in English. The ELA Honor Society does not just provide recognition for past accomplishments, but also looks to the future by encouraging students to develop key creative and critical writing, analysis, communication, storytelling, leadership, and interpersonal skills through activities, which take place both within the classroom and beyond it.

Membership in the ELA Honor Society fosters a profound and ever-deepening appreciation of literature and increased enjoyment of, and engagement in, English Language Arts classes, which will serve students at middle school level and beyond.

Participating students can earn pins and other prizes, which serve as evidence of their active participation in, and dedication to, the ELA Honor Society. Our pins and prizes are easily recognized and highly valued.

Benefits for Teachers

Leading an ELA Honor Society chapter allows teachers to connect with their students in a unique way. Through the ELA Honor Society, teaching and learning within the English Language Arts goes beyond the curriculum and beyond the classroom to impact students’ lives and the communities in which they live.

Leading a chapter gives teachers the opportunity to be recognized for their dedication and service to their students, school, and local community. In many cases, it renews the excitement that first drew teachers into classrooms.

It is also an opportunity for teachers to grow professionally by being able to network with like-minded individuals across the USA and around the world, and to count themselves among a select group of high achieving faculty leading ELA Honor Society chapters.

Benefits for Schools

Schools hosting a chapter of the ELA Honor Society provide opportunities not only for their students and teachers to gain recognition but also for the school to stand out for excellence in teaching and learning in the English Language Arts. Parents understand that the ELA Honor Society is a mark of distinction that reflects not only in-class learning experience but those that take place outside of the classroom and within the local community.

All ELA Honor Society schools receive a charter, which they can proudly display as a badge of honor to their current and future parents and can safely say that they recognize the achievement of outstanding students, offer opportunities for students to design and lead activities, and are constantly working to support students’ personal growth through community service projects.
