Prepare for ELA Honor Society Winter Awards & Grants

As a Chapter Advisor, you play a pivotal role in guiding your students toward recognition and growth. The ELA Honor Society offers a range of opportunities to celebrate their creativity, leadership, and your dedication from December 8, 2025, to January 12, 2026. Here are ways you can get involved:

Winter Creative Challenge: Character Trading Card Challenge

In this Creative Challenge, students design baseball-style trading cards for characters from Samira Ahmed’s Internment or a book of their choice. Each card highlights key traits, actions, and memorable moments. Students also include a brief explanation of their choices, showing how the design captures the essence of the character.

T-Shirt Design Competition

Students can design a T-shirt that represents the 2025-2026 ELA Big Read, Internment by Samira Ahmed, or features an ELA Honor Society mascot. Winning designs will be produced and sold through the Shop ELA store. The first-place winner will receive a copy of their T-shirt, and the Chapter Advisor will receive 15 vinyl stickers of the design.

Chapter Showcase

Highlight your chapter’s community projects by submitting them to the Chapter Showcase. All submissions are considered for the Chapter Showcase Award, which includes a trophy and certificate. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your students’ impact and creativity.

Professional Support Grant

As a Chapter Advisor, you can apply for a Professional Support Grant to fund professional development opportunities such as workshops, conferences, or training programs.

If you need assistance with applications or have questions about these programs, feel free to reach out to Chris Lockwood at ctlockwood@niu.edu.
