Application Dates:
September 29 – October 14, 2025
Description:
In this creative challenge, you’ll craft a blackout poem centered on the theme of social justice—using only the words from a page of text you’ve already read or connected with deeply. Choose a page from Internment by Samira Ahmed or a literary work of your choice. Then, blackout the words you don’t need to reveal the message that matters most.
This is more than a poetry exercise—it’s a form of resistance, reflection, and reimagining. You’re not just creating a poem; you’re uncovering a hidden truth, turning the original into something bold, personal, and unexpectedly powerful.
No new words allowed. Your voice emerges from what’s already on the page. Visual creativity is welcome. Use illustrations, shading, or design to amplify your message—but make sure your chosen words remain clear and legible.
