Creative Challenges for Students

The ELA Honor Society offers a continually evolving selection of Creative Challenges for its student members. The objective of these creative opportunities is to increase student engagement with literature that goes beyond the curriculum, and to foster excitement about reading in general.

This year’s Creative Challenges are all focused on the Big Read text. While the Challenges encourage students to think deeply about the novel, its themes, and characters, and engage in spaced learning, it is not obligatory to have read the novel. Student members may also craft responses to Creative Challenge prompts using other texts they have read for inspiration.

We hope that as many students as possible will participate in the Creative Challenges at the chapter level. We encourage all participating students to apply their imagination and creative skills to creating projects related to the texts they have read.

We highly recommend that students engage in a process of peer review with other ELA Honor Society members before final submission selections are made by Chapter Advisors. Students should also make use of the ELA Honor Society Writing Guide.

All Creative Challenge submissions must be made by individual student members via our AwardSpring platform and will be evaluated by a team of Chapter Advisors (Chapter Advisors will not evaluate their own students’ work).
