Chapter Showcase

Twice a year, the ELA Honor Society Chapter Showcase program recognizes the best projects from those submitted to each of the categories below. All submissions to the Chapter Showcase are considered for the Chapter Showcase Award at the end of the school year. The judging committee considers student motivation/creativity and quality of service/level of impact when making final decisions.

Awards

The winner of each Chapter Showcase submission round will receive $50.

The winner of the Chapter Showcase Award will receive a trophy.

Eligibility

ELA Honor Society chapters that make applications to the Chapter Showcase must be in good standing with ELA at the time of their submission.

Chapter Showcase Award will only be given to a chapter that has made a submission to the Chapter Showcase program within the same academic year. Chapter Showcase Award winners must be a chapter in good standing with ELA at the time of notification.

Submissions are made by Chapter Advisors but must include work produced by student members.

Chapter Showcase Submission Categories

Academic Focus

These projects establish or maintain a project focused on supporting the academic development of a target audience within schools or local communities.

Community Engagement

These projects see chapters focus their work on promoting life-long learning and the celebration of reading, writing, film, and the arts in their local community.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

These projects promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in various forms within schools or local communities. This category could include activities suggested in the Chapter Planning calendar.

Collaborative Projects

These projects are undertaken with other chapters and should impact both schools and/or local communities.

Submission Requirements

Chapter Showcase submissions must include:

  • a narrative summary of the project in the form of a blog (between 350-500 words) written by a student that details the number of ELA Honor Society members involved the project, the goal of the project/activity, the timeline, and the outcomes.
  • two to three testimonials/quotes from the project’s target audience revealing the impact and/or success of the project.
  • between 3 to 5 high-quality photos or videos of students undertaking the project.

Award Requirements

Winners should note that they will be required to provide a written report and photos detailing the impact the award prize has had on their chapter, which can be used by the ELA Honor Society to promote this and other awards in future years.

Evaluation Process

All Chapter Showcase submissions will automatically be entered into the Chaper Showcase Award and will be evaluated by the ELA Honor Society Advisory Council.

Awards will be given purely based on merit, not based on the imperative that all funds should be spent annually.
