May marks National Pet Month in the USA and the ELA Honor Society has been celebrating our furry friends through a Pet Photo Contest. Our two submissions categories were Best Literary Pose and Best Literary Look-a-like.
The winners of the 2026 contest are:
Best Look-alike
Winner

Olivia Scanna
Morgan Road Middle School
“This Alice doesn’t chase the White Rabbit, she chases string and naps mid chapter.”
Honorable Mention

Alyssa Stone
Morgan Road Middle School
“Annie read Internment by Samira Ahmed. She was confused about why they treated Muslims so unfairly and she was surprised on how much it connected to the real world we live in today!”
Best Literary Pose
Winner

Madeline Keohane
Morgan Road Middle School
“Hildie was in shock and had to lie down after reading the ending of her new favorite book, Five Feet Apart, by Rachael Lippincott, Mikki Daughtry, and Tobias Iaconis.”
Honorable Mentions

Ava Cole
Morgan Road Middle School
“Oscar and Luci read 5001 Incredible Facts for Kids by Joanne Mattern. They hope they can increase their IQ score and be just like Albert Einstein, but instead they quickly fall asleep.”

Bridget Hallenbeck
Morgan Road Middle School
“Penny always has her nose in a book, especially when it’s about her favorite (and totally real) animals—unicorns!”
Thank you to everyone who submitted photos of their pets—we had a wonderful time judging them and were blown away by students’ creativity and thoughtfulness.
Look out for more photo and social media contests in fall 2026!
