Dream Boldly—Why ELA Chapter Advisors Should Be at NCTE 2025

The theme for the 2025 NCTE Annual Convention, “Dream Boldly,” resonates deeply with the mission of the ELA Honor Society. Attending the NCTE Convention is not just a professional development opportunity, it’s an invitation to fuel your own bold dreams as an educator and Advisor, and to bring fresh inspiration and new energy back to your chapter.

As the largest event for English educators in the United States, the 2025 NCTE Convention brings together thousands of teachers, scholars, and literary professionals from across the country. This year, you’ll hear from an extraordinary lineup of speakers, including Percival Everett, Mychal Threets, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Derrick Barnes, and Jason Reynolds: all voices that inspire, challenge, and expand our understanding of literature, culture, and community.

Here are a few ways attending NCTE can directly strengthen the ELA Honor Society and your chapters:

  • Connect with like-minded educators: gain insight from teachers, literacy coaches, authors, and curriculum innovators who share your passion for reading, writing, and student voice.
  • Gather tools and fresh strategies: bring home lessons and practices that support ELA’s goals of building literate leadership and community service through English language arts.
  • Raise the profile of ELA: being visible and active in the wider English education community helps others see ELA as a national partner in promoting literacy, excellence, and student leadership.
  • Reinvigorate your own advising: stepping into convention energy and being among thousands of dynamic educators can reignite your own commitment and creativity.

Details will be confirmed closer to the time.

This dinner is one of our favorite traditions, and a chance to strengthen our community and share ideas in good company.
