Our team was able to connect with hundreds of current and potential Chapter Advisors at our booth in the Exhibition Hall, and through our well-attended roundtable event “Sparking Connections through the National English Honor Society.” Attendees’ questions focused on awards, scholarships, and grant opportunities for student members and Chapter Advisors, the logistics of starting a new chapter, and how to implement successful literacy-focused service projects.
Participation at the NCTE Convention also allowed NEHS, the ELA Honor Society, and Sigma Tau Delta to strengthen ties with the National Council of Teachers of English, forge opportunities to collaborate with other nonprofit educational organizations, and to be motivated by the enthusiasm for English teaching expressed by every convention delegate.
Teachers College Press, Scholastic, Candlewick Press, HarperCollins, W. W. Norton & Company, and Blackbird Book & Page all made wonderful (and very generous) donations of texts and products for NEHS to share with pre-service teachers and Chapter Advisors over the coming months.
