Writing Challenge, Chapter Showcase, and Professional Support Grants

The ELA Honor Society will be accepting submissions for its Writing Challenge, Chapter Showcase, and Professional Support Grants between April 22 and May 6, 2024, via our ELA AwardSpring system.

Student Writing Challenge

We are asking students to write a biography of no more than 300 words about a character in the ELA Honor Society Common Reader Dear Martin or a character from another book that they have read recently. Students should envision their chosen character twenty years after the book concludes. What would they have achieved? Would their motivations be the same? What would they be doing with their lives? How would their ideas and opinions have changed and evolved? Learn more about ELA Writing Challenges and check out our Writing Guide for students.

Chapter Showcase

The ELA Honor Society Chapter Showcase program recognizes the best student-led community projects. All submissions to the Chapter Showcase are considered for the Chapter Showcase Award at the end of the school year. The judging committee considers student motivation and creativity, and quality of service and level of impact when making final decisions.

Chapter Advisors can submit examples of student-led community work in one or more of the following categories: Academic Focus; Community Engagement; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Collaborative Projects.

Grants for Chapter Advisors

Professional Support Grants are available to provide financial support for Chapter Advisors looking to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skills on topics related to the teaching of the English Language Arts and other fields that will have a positive impact on their students and ELA Honor Society chapter.
