Banned Books Week Social Media Contest

Every year, the ELA Honor Society, the National English Honor Society (for high school students), and Sigma Tau Delta (the university English honor society) compete together in the Banned Books Week Social Media Contest.

This contest asks student and faculty members of all three societies to create thoughtful and well-designed social media posts highlighting a favorite book that has been banned and giving at least one reason why it has been contested.

We are excited to announce that Natalie Thompson, a student member of the Edgar & Abe Chapter at Morgan Road Middle School in Liverpool, NY, became our first ELA Honor Society winner of the competition. Natalie beat challenges from high school and university students from across the nation and around the world with her post about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz—a book we had never received a Banned Books Week contest submission on in the eight years of the contest’s history!

Check out Natalie’s winning submission, along with the other competition winners, on the ELA Facebook and Instagram accounts.
