As a thank you for all the hard work our amazing Chapter Advisors put into leading their ELA Honor Society chapters, the ELA Honor Society will be expanding its benefits package to registered Chapter Advisors.
ELA will be launching its new Classroom Library Grant in fall 2024. The Classroom Library Grant will provide Chapter Advisors with up to $400 to purchase texts for their classrooms. The ELA Classroom Library Grants are designed to enhance the Society’s goals of promoting interest in literature and language within ELA Honor Society schools; fostering all aspects of English study including literature, language, writing, and media; providing ELA Honor Society Chapter Advisors with a range of compelling literature to share with the students they teach; and giving students access to diverse, inclusive, and high-quality texts, particularly in areas where access to libraries or books at home may be limited.
ELA will continue to support the ongoing professional development of its Chapter Advisors through Professional Support Grants of between $25 and $350. These grants provide financial support for teachers looking to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skills on topics related to the teaching of the English Language Arts and other fields that will have a positive impact on their students and ELA Honor Society chapter. Example grant requests include registration to a local, state, or national conference or convention; covering fees for educational courses, seminars, speakers, or presentations; the purchase of professional, pedagogical texts; the acquisition of pedagogical resources (including, but not limited to, posters, bulletin board materials, identity/heritage month celebration materials), which promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the Advisor’s classroom.
